Group F Winners Tip: Bosnia

If Argentina don't get their shooting boots on early then they may have to settle for the runners-up spot.

The bookies think that Argentina have Group F sewn up before it even begins with Lionel Messi and co nothing longer than 1/4 (BetVictor) to finish top. But this is to under-estimate the threat of Bosnia-Herzegovina who represent outstanding value at best odds of 15/2 (Ladbrokes) in the same market.

The key thing to remember here is that after a three-game series you won’t necessarily find the best team at the summit. If Argentina and Bosnia draw their clash, then both beat Iran and Nigeria, then it would simply come down to goal difference; in that scenario the underdogs could easily fare better.

Bosnia qualified in formidable style (W8 D1 L1), topping their group ahead of Greece after scoring 30 goals and only conceding six. In Edin Dzeko and Vedad Ibisevic they boast two lethal strikers who could run amok against Iran and Nigeria; they should also cause Argentina some problems.

The South Americans have looked less than sublime in the past 12 months. A 3-2 loss to Uruguay last October was followed by a goalless home draw with Ecuador and the outcome was the same in Romania earlier this year. In contrast, Bosnia have warmed up with recent victories over Ivory Coast and Mexico. They could give one of the tournament favourites an early scare.
