Germany v Ghana Tip: Underdog Goalscorer Bet

Could have had a hat-trick against the USA, but if he brings his shooting boots Germany could suffer instead.

Germany may have won all the plaudits for their first match performance at the World Cup but we should not assume they are defensively invincible.

A 4-0 victory over Portugal was mightily impressive but they were only facing 10 men for more than half the contest. It’s worth remembering that just before the tournament began they drew 2-2 with Cameroon, who have looked awful in Brazil, and questions were being asked.

Next up they face a Ghana team who had 21 attempts on goal in their 2-1 defeat to the USA. On another day the 2010 quarter-finalists would have scored a few and one man in particular could be a threat to the European contenders on Saturday.

Asamoah Gyan had five attempts to himself against the US and although he grabbed an assist, it wasn’t his day. But we shouldn’t write off a man who found the net 41 times in 37 appearances for his club side in 2013-14. Even in the United Arab Emirates, these are exceptional figures.

Gyan is already Ghana’s top goalscorer of all time with 40 from 79 caps and he bagged an amazing 11 for his country in 2013 alone. At best odds of 4/1 (Betfair), the 28-year-old is worth a punt in the anytime goalscorer market.
