Villa Youngsters Offer Hope

Villa Youngsters Offer Hope

Scored four goals for Lille last season and played in a more advanced role last week. One of Villa’s better performers this season.

It’s been a miserable season for Aston Villa but with relegation virtually assured they can start planning for life in the Championship. The good news is at least there is some young playing talent in the squad.

Whether Villa can keep hold of them is another matter but the likes of Jordan Amavi, Jordan Ayew, Jordan Veretout, Carles Gil, Adama Traore and Jack Grealish are all under-25 and have bags of potential.

One of the most exciting talents is 26-year-old Idrissa Gueye. He looked a good player at Lille and has been one of the few bright spots in a miserable campaign. The Senegal international has started more league games than any other player and emerges from the wreckage with credit.

Eric Black deployed him in the number 10 role last week against Bournemouth and with a trip to Old Trafford to come, I wouldn’t be surprised if Black stuck with the same formation.

The 26-year-old netted four times for Lille last season and his more advanced positioning should give him a better sight of goal.

Man Utd have been distinctly average all season and Idrissa Gueye can give beleaguered Villa fans something to cheer about by opening the scoring at 40/1 (Paddy Power).
