Villa To Keep Faint Survival Hopes Alive

Villa To Keep Faint Survival Hopes Alive

Aston Villa are starting to win the points their early season performances probably deserved whilst Liverpool look in limbo.

Aston Villa have finally woken up. It’s probably not enough to save them from relegation but they should pick up some points between now and the end of the season.

The issue with Aston Villa is they’ve never been as bad as their league position suggests. Paul Riley’s expected goal model has them 17th in the league and they’ve been hampered by a poor save percentage all season.

Remi Garde has addressed this position by replacing Brad Guzan with Mark Bunn and results have steadily improved. Villa have lost only once in their last five matches and that was at West Ham when they were reduced early in the game to 10 men.

As for Liverpool, they seem to lurch from one mini-crisis to another. Whether that be ticket price issues, a spate of injuries, or just Christian Benteke.

Safely ensconced in upper mid-table it is difficult to see what they can achieve in the league and without a win in four things could get worse before they get better. Aston Villa should get at least a point and are a solid bet at 21/20 in the double chance market.
