Villa Still Have Capacity To Surprise

Stoke v Aston Villa: Villa Still Have Capacity To Surprise

Villa took a hiding as Liverpool scored six goals from 11 shots but they won’t face such high conversion rates every week.

It has been a tough season for Aston Villa fans but there did seem to be an overreaction in the media to their defeat at Liverpool. The scoreline looked bad and the defending was hapless but the team are rooted to the bottom of the league, so why the shock?

Aston Villa were bad but the result was exacerbated by poor goalkeeping and great finishing; Liverpool scored 6 goals from 11 shots and you’re not going to face those conversion rates every week.

Stoke ended their own poor run of form snapping a five game losing streak at Bournemouth but there is a feeling they are still less than the some of their parts.

Given all their attacking flair Stoke don’t score or create enough, they are 17th in the league for actual goals (27) and 14th in expected goals (28).

Aston Villa have their own issues getting the ball into the net but one might be enough at the Britannia Stadium and an unexpected away win is the play at 9/2 (Ladbrokes)
