Villa Can Kick-Start Their Season
The league table says it’s top v bottom but both teams lie in slightly false positions.
In last week’s FA Cup we suggested Aston Villa weren’t as bad as their league position suggested. They didn’t do much to help the argument with an insipid second half display but on Wednesday they finally kick-started their season with a win over Crystal Palace.
Yes they were gifted a goal by a poor mistake from Wayne Hennessey but teams enjoy moments of fortune throughout the season so why begrudge Villa theirs?
Next up is a home game against Leicester and although there is a huge gap between them in the table, they are closer in performance levels. According to Paul Riley’s expected goal difference model Leicester would lie 6th in the league and Villa 17th. That is still quite a difference but not one that warrants the odds on offer.
Aston Villa are a best price 27/10 (BetVictor) to win in Saturday’s late game and buoyed by their midweek victory it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them win again.
