UEFA Super Cup: Bayern Munich v Chelsea Tip

Chelsea should be difficult to break down but breaching the defence of the Champions League holders may be even tougher.

The UEFA Super Cup is a funny old fixture because you never really know how much it means to the teams involved. However, given that this time it pits Mourinho against his old sparring partner Guardiola, it’s probably fair to assume it will be pretty competitive.

Team selections are another minefield and I’ve reached the conclusion that it’s a good time to stick to the total goals in the game market, as opposed to goalscorer and scoreline options.

These games always get everyone talking about the abundance of attacking talent on the pitch and the defenders get largely overlooked. I think this is why we end up with some value, with best odds of 11/10 (Boylesports) available on there being under 2.5 goals in the match.

Chelsea have been defensively rock solid so far this season having only conceded one goal in three outings. The 0-0 draw at Old Trafford on Monday saw the reigning English champions restricted to nothing more than the occasional half chance.

For their part Bayern Munich have conceded just two goals in five matches since the start of August. Three of their four league fixtures have produced under 2.5 goals in the match.

With this in mind, defences could be the dominant force in Prague on Friday, yet we could score at a decent price.
