Tottenham v Manchester United Tip

Rooney Returns

The champions are improving while Spurs went to pieces last week.

I think many people, including Spurs fans, would have held out much greater hope for a home victory in this one a week or so ago. But the capitulation of Harry Redknapp’s side in 5-2 defeat at the Emirates was a throwback to the dark days for the Lilywhites. The sending off and subsequent suspension of Scott Parker for this clash compounded the nightmare.

Ok, they will be well motivated to avenge that setback, but I suspect their self-belief has been well and truly rattled. Manchester United are not the visitors you want when doubt is creeping in.

A quick look at the history of this fixture will only give Tottenham a bigger insecurity complex. The Red Devils are unbeaten in their 25 meetings and the spoils have only even be shared on six of those occasions. You also get the feeling that Sir Alex Ferguson is really thriving on the title battle with Manchester City and his team are responding like champions. They have taken 16 points from a possible 18 and their form on the road is vastly improved on 2010-11.

The only problem with backing the straight away win is that best odds of 6/4 (Bet365) don’t look too generous. However, I think we can find our value in the ‘half time - full time’ market. United showed how strong they are at the end of games last week at Norwich and I think than trend will continue. Bet on the game being level at the break with the visitors winning in the end at best odds of 11/2 with bodog.
