The Rise of the Reds

Liverpool are finally starting to play something like the team we saw last season. Better results will surely follow soon.

The League Cup quarter-final victory at Bournemouth, the high energy dominant display against Arsenal, a 97th minute equaliser in that match with 10 men…it all feels like things are finally turning for Liverpool.

The Reds can really gather some momentum with victory at Turf Moor and I think they can do so with both teams scoring at best odds of 11/4 (Boylesports).

Burnley are proving an increasingly tough nut to crack and they have scored precisely one goal in each of their last six home games. It’s a tribute to their defence that their last four goals have contributed eight points, something which is unsustainable.

I expect this fixture to more resemble the two Turf Moor encounters in October which both ended in 3-1 defeats for the Clarets, against West Ham and Everton. Liverpool are similarly capable of scoring goals themselves now they have rediscovered their attacking intensity.

Brendan Rodgers has enjoyed successful trips to Leicester as well as Bournemouth in December and this test should be of a similar calibre. However, it would take a brave man to back a clean sheet for the second worst away defence in the division - 16 goals conceded in eight outings. The away win with Burnley scoring is therefore the play.
