Southampton v Millwall Tip

Henderson amongst the goals

Closer than the betting suggests, especially with Southampton giving fringe players a run out.

When I see the headlines “FA Cup Not Adkins Priority” and “Adkins to ring changes”, I am not generally rushing to the bookmakers to back an 8/11 (Coral) chance.

Southampton play Millwall in a fourth-round replay, a game both could do without. Southampton are chasing promotion, whilst Millwall battle relegation, clearly the priorities are elsewhere.

The Saints will be without new striker Billy Sharp, whilst Iago Falque, Danny Fox and Jos Hooiveld are unavailable. Millwall are also missing personnel, with Andy Keogh ineligible but Kenny Jackett has shown a tendency to field strong teams in the FA Cup. In the first game, his starting XI contained eight players you would consider first team regulars and a similar number could play tonight.

On current form Southampton shouldn’t be odds-on. The Saints have stuttered lately, collecting 8 points from their last seven games, although Millwall aren’t faring much better with 6 points from the same period.

With changes to the line-ups and both teams struggling for results this should be an evenly matched contest. An away win at 9/2 (Bet365) is tempting but lets take the insurance in the draw no bet market where Millwall are still overpriced at 10/3 with Bet365.
