Sevilla Set Sights On Europa League

Sevilla ran out comfortable 3-0 winners in their first meeting and Gladbach were flattered by a pair of draws against Juventus.

Sevilla’s chances of getting out of Group D hang by a thread but victory in Germany over Monchengladbach would ensure at least a place in the Europa League and a chance to win that competition for a third year in a row.

In truth Sevilla have been outplayed by Man City and Juventus as their expected goal difference of -1.2 testifies but they’ve been nowhere near as bad as Monchengladbach with an expected goal difference of -3.5.

The German team have found the leap in class tough and although they earned two draws against Juventus they were a bit fortunate. The first came when they shut out the Italians despite facing 22 shots and the second was heavily influenced by Hernanes getting sent off after 53 minutes.

Sevilla thrashed Monchengladbach in the first round of fixtures and despite the return leg taking place in Germany, I expect the same outcome at 2/1 (Bet365).
