Rooney Offer Has A Silva Lining

We can get our money back if Rooney scores last, and with Van Persie and Aguero missing, the first goalscorer market is enticing.

With Paddy Power offering money back on losing bets if Wayne Rooney scores last, our choice of bookie becomes easy and we get drawn to particular markets.

I’ve been torn between Yaye Toure (7/1) and David Silva (12/1) in the first goalscorer market, but I think the best value lies with the latter despite the former’s hat-trick at the weekend.

Yaye’s 16 league goals ought to make him a contender for player of the season particularly when you consider that he still has relatively few strikes on goal. Amazingly, he has found the net with nine of his 11 dead ball efforts in 2013-14 (five pens and four free-kicks). It’s mightily impressive, but from a betting perspective, unsustainable.

At approaching twice the price, Silva averages more shots per game (1.9) than his captain (1.7). Given that they both get into the box about the same amount, this makes Silva the better long term goalscoring prospect. The 12/1 Paddy offers on the Spaniard breaking the deadlock is also the best price available on the market.

*If Wayne Rooney scores last, Paddy Power will refund all losing First Goalscorer, Last Goalscorer, Correct Score & Scorecast singles on the match as a free bet.
