Right Garde

The pundits only notice that Villa haven't won in an eternity but they have outperformed recent opponents and the three points are coming.

Aston Villa have been written off by all and sundry but actually there’s evidence to suggest they are about to end their long winless run.

Remi Garde’s boys have drawn three of their last four games but perhaps more tellingly they have outshot their last three opponents.

Villa Shots Per Game Compared to Opposition (On target in brackets):

15 (8) v West Ham 10 (4)
10 (7) v Newcastle 8 (4)
18 (2) v Arsenal 8 (4)

We can see that not only have Villa outshot all their most recent opponents, they also worked the goalkeeper more frequently against the Hammers and the Magpies. Significantly, against West Ham, 60% of their shots came from inside the box which makes them high probability efforts.

These patterns are bound to be restoring some much needed confidence and it’s a matter of time before they score more than one if they keep this up.

Norwich lost 3-0 on Saturday and are inconsistent at best. At a best price of 31/10, a precious Villa win could finally be coming at Carrow Road.
