Villians In Damage Limitation Mode

Villa have improved since their relegation was confirmed and the handicap markets don't acknowledge this.

The established narrative for this one is that Aston Villa have had such a horrendous season that it would be fitting if they ended their Premier League era with a thumping defeat.

It may sound about right, but it ignores the clear evidence that the beleaguered basement boys have been fighting manfully to at least be competitive in recent weeks. In their last five outings, Villa have drawn once, lost three times by a single goal and the other time Southampton won 4-2 courtesy of a 94th minute goal. Impressive? Most certainly not! But whipping boys neither.

Equally, Arsenal haven’t brushed aside anyone since the start of April. They’ve drawn four of their last six and beaten Norwich 1-0 and WBA 2-0, both at the Emirates. Unless Spurs offer genuine hope to the Gunners by falling behind at Newcastle, this one could easily fall into damp squib territory.

If it does then best odds of 12/5 (BetVictor) on Aston Villa +2 in the handicap market will soon look great.
