Tighter Than Expected

People are naturally inclined to expect goals in these fixtures but key attackers are missing and two of the top three defences are in action.

There seems to be a natural assumption amongst fans, pundits and bookies that whenever the top teams clash there will be goals galore.

But typically these are meetings of the best defences as well as the best attacking outfits so that logic may not stand up to scrutiny. We should go against the crowd today and back under 2.5 goals in the match at best odds of 5/4 with Betfair.

Spurs are building their possible title credentials around the best defence in the top flight. They have only conceded three goals in their six league matches and four of their fixtures have seen under 2.5 goals already.

Admittedly, Manchester City look like a different kettle of fish but not only do they also boast one of the best defences, they have also let in the odd silly consolation goal when the match has been won. That is unlikely to be a scenario today.

Finally we should factor in the likely absence of key goal getters and contributors today. There will be no Harry Kane or Kevin de Bruyne - possibly others - and that is likely to affect the potency of both sides going forward.
