Adam Lallana was just one of many former Saints stars who made the switch to Anfield over the space of a few years. Could Southampton pull off a huge shock by maintaining their dazzling away form? Just maybe.

We’ll have one more crack at predicting the impossible. I can’t see anyone shutting out Liverpool at Anfield but Southampton are a best price 20/1 with Bet365 to win with both teams to score - and I’m all over it.

Nobody needs any reminders how good the champions-elect are, but I still think they are fallible, even if results are yet to back that conviction up!

You can make a case for saying Liverpool have edged nearly half their league victories this season, without in any way suggesting their success isn’t deserved. But they can be got at, and it only needs a day where they don’t get the rub of the green for an upset to occur.

Southampton are on superb form, not only illustrated by eye-catching recent victories away to Chelsea and Leicester, and at home to Spurs, since Boxing Day.

The manner of the performances is also key to it being sustainable. In January they have outshot every opponent they’ve faced; the one that stands out was when they battered the Foxes 16-5 for shots on their own patch, with 10 efforts on target.

In this context Saturday’s fixture could be a close content, despite the huge price on the visitors. If Liverpool start to feel any complacency, Hassenhuttl’s men will be ready to end their mighty run.
