The cream has risen to the top unusually early in this season’s Premier League and we can also see that underlying shot statistics marry up pretty well with actual results. Those two things won’t be coincidental.

In other words, the sides who are having the most shots and conceding the fewest are generally picking up the most points - as you’d expect. From a betting perspective this tells us to trust the league table perhaps a bit more than we could during the largely freakish 2015-16 campaign.

On Saturday we should therefore back wins for Spurs, Everton and Palace at best combined odds of 12/1 with Coral.

Everton (2nd) head to Bournemouth (17th) and actually the gap between the sides is fairly represented. The Toffees have had the most shots on target per game in the top flight (7.4) only slightly fewer than the Cherries have managed in total shots including off target (9.0). Koeman’s boys only concede 10 shots per game compared to 16.6 for the Seaside club.

Spurs rank first first in the Premier League for total shots per game (19.0) and it’s not inconceivable they might actually click a bit better in the short term without the mis-firing Harry Kane. Their opponents Middlesbrough rank 18th for total shots taken (9.2) which should prove the difference even if the Londoners are only edging the shots conceded stats comparatively.

Finally we should back Palace to continue their good form at the Stadium of Light as they are performing at both ends of the park like a solid middle table outfit (9th for shots taken & 11th for shots conceded). Compare that to Sunderland who rank 17th and 19th in the same metrics and who face yet another tough winter.

We may be hoping on three away wins but all the stats are in our favour and the price more than compensates us for that risk.
