Relegation Tip: Everton
The bookies have the Toffees as the 9th most likely team to get relegated after 13 matches but that makes a lie of the league table. Everton are 17th with some of their toughest games of the first half of the season still to come.
Marco Silva is clinging on at the time of writing this, but the upcoming fixture list suggests the damage is already done. Rather than backing Everton to lose at Leicester or Liverpool this week, perhaps it’s now worth taking the 10/1 WilliamHill offer on the Toffees going down this season.
It’s a big shout given that the blue half of Merseyside hasn’t suffered the ignominy of relegation since 1951, but history like that really doesn’t have an impact. If anything, it could just add to the players’ fear if it becomes close.
And the situation will surely look perilous by Christmas. Everton are just two points above the drop zone following Southampton’s win on Saturday night and look what’s coming next; Leicester (a), Liverpool (a), Chelsea (h), Man Utd (a), Arsenal (h).
If those games go to expectation then the Blues will be in the relegation zone at halfway and double figure odds will be a distant memory. A change of manager looks inevitable but that’s no assurance of a turnaround - just look at Watford.
