Record Breakers

Chelsea hold the record for most Premier League goals in a season from 2009-10, but their tally of 103 is under serious threat from Pellegrini's City Slickers.

Manchester City have already become the first ever English side to score over 100 goals before the end of January. That particular record includes all competitions but now Chelsea’s Premier League record of 103 goals in a season must seriously be under threat as well.

Betfred are offering odds of 5/2 on Manuel Pellegrini’s boys surpassing Chelsea’s total and they are well and truly on course. Carlo Ancelotti’s double-winners found the net 103 times in 38 fixtures in 2009-10 at an average of 2.71 goals per game.

So far in 2013-14, Man City have scored 63 times in 22 outings at an average of 2.86 goals per game. They now need 41 more from their final 16 matches to break the top flight record. That would require a run-in average of 2.56 goals per game.

As you can see, the title favourites don’t even need to maintain quite the same prolific level as they are at now to set new goal standards. The statistics surely tell us that the odds are a gift and we should take advantage before the market wakes up.
