Premier League Winner Tip: 2021-22

It's been eight years since Fergie left and the titles stopped in the red half of Manchester. Only 4th favourites after a 2nd placed finish last season, Ole has responded brilliantly to his critics and a squad improved by Sancho and Varane can have a proper tilt this time around.

There’s only been one competitive title race in the last four seasons, but there’s always some hope before a ball is kicked! Ahead of 2021-22, the value appears to lie with Manchester United, a best price 9/1 with Betfred - go each-way and get paid out at 1/3rd odds if they finish 2nd again.

Clearly there are three other contenders to discuss. Man City are the team to beat, but retaining the Premier League rarely happens these days, they are currently lacking a striker, and at 4/6 they are just too short to back.

Then there’s the Champions League holders, Chelsea at 5/1. Thomas Tuchel has already worked wonders but can Lukaku turn a lack of goals around single handedly that saw the Blues only rank 7th best last season? Had it not been for Leicester faltering more, a loss to Villa on the final day would have seen them finish 5th on 67pts.  Work to do yet.

The team that slipped past Chelsea on the final day were Liverpool, who will be intriguing with Virgil Van Dyke back, along with the badly missed fans at Anfield. There is a sense however, that Klopp needs some more fresh blood and that this group may have peaked.

Going back to United, they have made significant additions by bringing in Sancho and Varane - two quality improvements to the starting eleven. The Red Devils were already a comfortable second last season, and that after three humbling defeats in their first four outings at Old Trafford.

That just won’t happen with supporters back, but the resolve that led to an unbeaten away record isn’t going to disappear.

All that was missing from a title challenge last year, besides a better start, was the ability to convert a few more draws into three points. The weapons are there to do just that now; Sancho adds pace and guile out wide, Cavani will be ready to go sooner this time around, while Martial can only do better this term.
