Premier League Relegation Tip: Southampton

It's slipped under the radar but the Saints have played 7 off 11 games at home and most of their matches generally against bottom half sides. Yet they're still struggling.

As we head into the international break it’s worth flagging up a disparity in the Premier League relegation betting. With half the division lined up at single figure prices, Southampton are massively overrated at a best price 18/1 with BetVictor.

The Saints may not look that perilous at the moment in 13th position but they are only 4 points above the drop zone and they have a chronic goalscoring problem.

They have only found the net more than once in 2 of their 11 top flight matches so far this season. Pellegrino’s boys have been shutout 5 times. It’s hard to win the requisite number of matches to stay up with these ratios.

Crucially, let’s consider the opposition faced up till now. Southampton have played 7 of their 11 matches at home - more than anybody else.

Furthermore, they have only faced one member of the top-6 heavyweights. Other than Man Utd at home they’ve had a dream fixture list, and they have next to nothing to show for it.

The one plus-point for the Saints is a solid defence but even that is built around a man who wants to leave - Virgil van Dijk. They are starting to resemble the Middlesbrough side of last term, and that doesn’t bode well for the future.
