Premier League Double

Chelsea and Spurs both need victories pretty badly on Saturday. They should get them, but not without sweat, toil and nervous times.

There will be plenty of punters who will assume Chelsea and Tottenham will win home matches against moderate opponents on Saturday, but you won’t get much better than evens money combined if you’re right about that.

However, given the various struggles of both London outfits thus far, backing them both to win by just 1 goal margins seems appealing at best odds of 13.06/1 with Skybet.

Chelsea to beat Brighton by 1 goal (11/4):

I do actually fancy the Europa League champions to enjoy some statement results over the coming months but right now Lampard’s youngsters just need points on the board and that may bring some pressure in a fixture like this, where expectations are high. Graham Potter has got Brighton playing some attractive football and the Seagulls were unlucky not to claim the spoils at Newcastle. They can make life tough for almost anyone, although it probably won’t be enough today.

Tottenham to beat Southampton by 1 goal (11/4):

I heard a Spurs fan describe his team as ‘stale’ lately and that seems about right. The heroics of reaching the Champions League Final papered over some domestic cracks which have surfaced more prominently this season. But, Dele Alli will hopefully be better for some game-time and the quality in the squad is still vast. I expect them to get the job done, in the end, against a Southampton side with some admittedly decent away results of late. They have a terrible record at Tottenham however.
