PL Player of the Year 2017-18: Sergio Aguero
It almost went under the radar that 'Kun' scored 33 goals last season. He's well capable of repeating or even improving on that and in a more successful side that could lead to awards.
With Manchester City widely regarded as favourites for the title this season, it’s interesting to see their best ever Premier League striker as long as 20/1 in the betting to win the Player of the Year award with William Hill.
For that’s what Sergio Aguero is. And the 29-year-old striker is a long way from winding down having actually enjoyed his best ever goalscoring campaign at the Etihad last time out, claiming 33 goals in all competitions.
The big debate is whether he can play alongside Jesus and the evidence strongly suggests he can. They only started three times together in the second half of last season but in those games they found the net three times each. Aguero even chucked in two assists for his team-mate.
Guardiola has been experimenting, successfully, with a 3-5-2 formation in pre-season and he will be fully aware of the benefits of accommodating both of his main marksmen in the same line-up.
So Aguero is set to get plenty of game time and it’s premature to assume that the 20-year-old Jesus will outperform him.
If the Argentinian fires another 33 goals or more, and City pick up significant silverware, you can be sure he will be in the running for the top individual honours.
