Only The Young

Ashley Young is getting into goal scoring areas from his more advanced positioning and United have scored 3 or more in seven of their last ten home games.

One of the bright spots in Man Utd’s season has been the renaissance of Ashley Young. The England international returned to the team as a wing-back but in recent games he has been pushed further forward as Louis Van Gaal has resorted to a back-four.

The 29-year-old was man on the match against Crystal Palace and his more advanced positioning means he carries a goal threat.

So far this season he is averaging 1.3 shots per 90 minutes, with over half coming from inside the penalty box. To put into context that is half the shot output of Wayne Rooney.

Throughout his career, Ashley Young has scored goals. On average he scores a goal every six league games, making him roughly a 5/1 chance in the anytime market.

United have scored three or more goals in seven of their last ten league matches at Old Trafford and if another goal-fest is store, Ashley Young to score anytime at 15/2 (Stan James) looks a good bet.
