6th Oct 2019 | Premier League

Goal Scarcity On Tyneside

It's a fixture featuring two managers under some early pressure and it's really hard to envisage any kind of classic encounter.

The atmosphere at St James’s Park has the potential to be pretty turgid with the supporters of both teams wearied by a lack of progress. The Toon Army will do their best in the role of underdogs but it’s still hard to back a team who lost 5-0 last weekend and with the fewest goals scored in the top flight.

That said, I’m equally unwilling to back Manchester United at close to evens money when they haven’t won away in the Premier League in seven attempts, and with Pogba and Martial missing.

Instead let’s bet on the nature of the match instead which seems far more predictable. Under 1.5 goals in the match at best odds of 11/5 with Bet365 makes sense.

Newcastle home matches have produced the fewest total goals (3) in the top flight to date this season and it’s hard to see that trend suddenly changing. It’s a tale of forwards lacking confidence and one strike could win this one, if indeed anyone succeeds at all.
