Foxes Trot On

Leicester have taken 4 more points than anyone else in the Premier League since the start of April. Yet the bookies refuse to budge.

Having tipped West Brom on the basis that we can’t read too much into the opening weekend, cynics may argue that I’m falling into that trap by backing Leicester after their heroics against Sunderland. In fact that couldn’t be further from the truth.

West Ham obviously had a great result at the Emirates as well so it’s almost impossible to pick a favourite here based on the most recent 90 minutes. However, it might just be that the Hammers are due to come back down to earth when we extrapolate the form out.

The Foxes have actually tasted victory in eight of their last 10 Premier League matches and have claimed four more points than anyone else since the start of April. That’s an astounding run and suggests a permanent improvement, at least to some extent. Sensibly, Ranieri has kept the plates spinning without trying to add any major tricks of his own.

In contrast, West Ham only took the spoils in two of their final 16 games last season. The result at Arsenal could be a flash in the pan and Leicester look worth backing at 12/5 with Betfred.
