Fallow Carrow Road

The last four meetings between these two have all ended 1-0 and nothing suggests there will be a sudden glut of goals.

Sometimes you just have to put certain football results down as a one-off and move on. That’s what I’m doing with Norwich’s 4-1 loss at Villa Park which appears to fall into the ‘freak’ category.

The Canaries generally get involved in low scoring encounters these days, most especially at Carrow Road, where they have kept four clean sheets in a row. Given that the opposition included three top-eight teams (Man City, Spurs and Newcastle), that’s mightily impressive.

Of course the main reason Chris Hughton’s job appears to be on the line is that he can’t find enough goals down the other end of the pitch. Ricky van Wolfswinkel has been a staggering flop having not scored since the opening day but even Gary Hooper has dried up after a bright start.

Stoke arrive off a wonderful victory over Arsenal, but the Potters have failed to transfer great form at the Britannia to away days all season. Mark Hughes’s boys have only scored 10 on their travels from 14 outings, which shows the problem.

The last five Carrow Road league games have seen under 1.5 goals as have Stoke’s last two matches, so we’ll go for that at best odds of 85/40 with StanJames.
