Difficult Season Begins For Baggies

The more you analyse the situation at the Hawthorns, the more WBA look destined for a long, hard season.

If you’re looking for a potential away win at a good price on the opening day of the top flight season then look no further than Sunderland (13/5 BetVictor) who travel to West Brom.

These two teams were moving in opposite directions as 2013-14 reached its conclusion as the form guide for the final five matches of the campaign demonstrates.

Sunderland: W4 D0 L1 - 12pts
West Brom:  W1 D0 L4 - 3pts

The Black Cats’ late charge to 14th position was all the more impressive because their run-in included victories at Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford as well as a 2-2 draw at the Etihad just before the succession of wins.

Gus Poyet will be hopeful of keeping that momentum going whereas West Brom crawled home in 17th position before changing their manager yet again. Alan Irvine is now in charge having not led a team since he was sacked by Wednesday back in 2011.

Baggies fans must be worried, not least because their side has lost its three most recent pre-season friendlies. Key signing Joleon Lescott will miss this one through injury and I think the Mackems can capitalise and get off to a flyer.
