Defoe Still A Threat
He scored the winner in the derby last April and remains the most likely goalscorer on the pitch.
It will be another fascinating Tyne-Wear derby on Sunday with one of the sides, at least, almost certain to get relegated and with Rafa Benitez suddenly thrust into the home dugout against his long-term enemy Sam Allardyce.
It’s hard to call a winner but what we can say is that Jermain Defoe represents great value at 12/5 (PaddyPower) to score anytime.
The former England striker has an impressive 11 league goals from 20 starts this campaign and he found the net as a substitute last time out at Southampton.
Big Sam didn’t risk the 33-year-old from the start after he had played 90 minutes a few days earlier, however now the Mackems have had a fortnight off.
Defoe has scored eight of his 11 league goals away from home and against a jittery Newcastle defence looking to avoid a seventh straight derby defeat, he can pounce again.
