Chelsea v Southampton Preview

Chelsea are suddenly under a bit of pressure to close out the Premier League and although two defeats in four league games isn’t a disaster, it changes the complexion of the run in.

Antonio Conte’s men haven’t kept a clean sheet in the league since beating Hull in late January and although some pundits suggest Chelsea have been figured out, they haven’t noticed Thibaut Courtois has cooled off. He’s not playing badly (when not injured shooting hoops), he’s just no longer the miracle man of earlier.

Apart from results, there isn’t a huge amount to separate the top-5 in the league when it comes to expected goal difference and although Chelsea might still win the league, they will finish closer to the pack.

Southampton for what it’s worth are better than their league position suggests; they have saved their best for the cups but shouldn’t be taken lightly in the league. A Southampton/Draw is the play.
