Austin Back In Business

Charlie Austin scored 18 top flight goals for a poor QPR side in 2014-15 and he looks back to that sort of form for the Saints now.

On the face of it, the great hope for West Ham is that they score more goals than Southampton, but if we look at the shot statistics even that trend may not continue now that Charlie Austin is in favour and on form.

The former QPR hitman notoriously almost signed for the Hammers a couple of years back, only for the Londoners to publicly question his fitness at the last minute. You can be sure the the 27-year-old won’t have forgotten that episode.

The Saints actually rank in the top five in the Premier League for both shots conceded, which isn’t a huge surprise, and shots attempted, which most won’t expect.

They have had 16.6 shots per outing compared to 14.8 for Bilic’s boys. So conversion has been the issue for Carlos Puel and he may have solved that by putting faith in a man who has found the net four times in his last three appearances in all competitions.

Austin to score in a Southampton win is an attractive 7/2 shot with Ladbrokes.
