Ancelotti To Reinvent Everton

The arrival of one of the most successful managers of the modern era at Everton should transform the club's fortunes. The defence is already in better health and the Blues can claim just a second away win of the campaign.

Everton are due urgent reassessment now that Carlo Ancelotti is in the dugout at Goodison Park. In fairness, Duncan Ferguson did a surprisingly good job of steadying the ship before handing over to the Italian, and the Merseysiders are now unbeaten in four.

The improvement has begun in defence which gives me the confidence to back Everton to win 1-0 at St James’s Park at best odds of 13/2 with Bet365. The Toffees only conceded one apiece to Chelsea and Manchester United, before shutting out Arsenal and Burnley.

Anyone who saw Newcastle’s 1-0 victory over Palace will tell you that they were flattered by the result. It probably gave false hope heading to Old Trafford where, despite leading early on, they conceded four times in half an hour.

That collapse was atypical of the job Steve Bruce has done on Tyneside but there’s a sense that the Toon Army are slipping into a mini-slump. Expect more of the same from Ancelotti, with consecutive 1-0 victories potentially on the cards.
