Playing For Brazil

Jay Rodriguez is now the second highest scoring Englishman in the Premier League. He tormented Newcastle last weekend.

Often at this stage of the season you worry about teams that don’t appear to have as much to play for. Southampton would seem to fall into that category, yet with so many players chasing places in World Cup squads, we shouldn’t see performance levels dropping off.

One man aiming for a seat on the plane to Brazil is Jay Rodriguez. The England hopeful spearheaded the 4-0 demolition of Newcastle last weekend; the 24-year-old scored twice, had 11 attempts on goal and received the unheard of rating of 9.97/10 according to whoscored.com.

Rodriguez has now found the net 15 times in the top flight in 2013-14 and actually scores more often when the Saints are on their travels (9). At best odds of 10/3 (Coral), he is an absolute steal in the anytime goalscorer market against Manchester City.
