Martinez Keeps His Boys Going Till The Final Whistle

Everton score more of their goals in the second half than anybody else as evidenced at Fulham last weekend.

Sunday afternoon sees a crucial game in the Premier League but not in the way Arsenal would have hoped a month or so ago. Back then, the Gunners were fully engrossed in the title race, but now, a defeat to Everton would put a place in the top four itself under serious jeopardy.

The Toffees are certainly due a victory over these opponents having failed in their last 14 attempts across all competitions. But history won’t really come into play here; more pertinent is Everton’s run of five consecutive league wins while the visitors have only mustered one in that time.

I think a triumph for Roberto Martinez’s men is on the cards here but it may rely on their customary late heroics. They have scored the highest percentage of second half goals in the top flight (71%) and only Man City (19) have found the net more often in the final 15 minutes than the Toffees (17).

Such a habit breeds confidence that you can do it again, so there looks to be value in backing ‘half-time: draw - full-time: Everton’ at best odds of 5/1 with Boylesports.
