Man City v Ajax Tip

Mancini's side are lucky to have even a single point from three CL matches. The Dutch visitors are vastly under-rated by the bookies.

Quite simply, based on Champions League results, a price of 7/1 (Betfred) on Ajax beating Manchester City, as they did 3-1 a fortnight ago, is just too long to turn down.

The English champions may be fearsome domestically but they just haven’t got to grips with top-level European competition as of yet. The Blues were dumped out on the group stages in 2011-12 and they languish at the bottom of Group D so far this year with just one point from three outings. The one draw secured at home to Dortmund was incredibly fortuitous and owed much to the heroics of Joe Hart.

Ajax held the Germans for 87 minutes in Dortmund and produced a masterclass when City came to Holland. With Roberto Mancini faced with a long injury list this time, it’s not that hard to imagine another tough night for the hosts at the Etihad.

Furthermore, the Dutch have pretty recent form for winning in Manchester. Ajax defeated United 2-1 in last season’s Europa League at Old Trafford and will travel full of confidence. The odds ignore all this evidence and bizarrely suggest that Frank de Boer has a bunch of no-hopers. Nothing could be further from the truth.
