The stubbornness of the Chelsea manager will ultimately be his undoing. While football is an unpredictable game, that relies on teams trying new approaches to cause shocks. Sarri is not for turning.
PaddyPower offer a best price of 4/1 on Manchester City winning by 3+ goals in the EFL Cup Final and I can only see that as generous.
Everybody knows that City destroyed Chelsea 6-0 just a fortnight ago and the painful truth is it could have been more if Pep’s side had kept hunting for goals with intensity. It therefore seems better than a 1 in 5 shot that they can win by at least half that amount again.
That may sound like an oversimplified analysis of high-level football but Maurizio Sarri’s refusal to mix up his approach would surely rule out a seismic reversal of fortunes here.
The Italian is unrelenting in the public criticism of his players and this ought to be the most one-sided cup final we’ve seen between two huge clubs in a while.
