League Cup Double
A couple of Championships teams ought to progress against lesser opponents in the Capital One Cup.
Paddy Power offer odds of 9/4 that Championship sides Middlesbrough and Preston both win against lower league opponents on Wednesday night. It should happen.
Boro to win at Oldham:
This is a repeat of a first round clash last season, a tie which Boro won 3-0 away. There’s little reason to think that the outcome should be significantly different this time with the visitors going on to prove they are a class team even at Championship level. The Latics finished 15th in League One and have been exited at this stage six years in a row.
Preston to win at Crewe:
North End won 5-1 the last time these sides clashed, as recently as March of this year. The newly promoted Championship team have progressed beyond the first round seven years in a row and shouldn’t come unstuck here. Crewe very nearly ended up in League 2 after finishing 20th last term and the 0-0 home draw with Port Vale at the weekend was anything but inspiring.
