3 Reasons Why Spurs Can Win The Cup Final

Tottenham should be underdogs, but not 9/2 shots. Here's why.

Even the most die-hard Tottenham fans would willing concede that their team are, and should be, underdogs at Wembley. However, there are three compelling reasons why the Lilywhites rank as a strong value bet at best odds of 9/2 (WilliamHill) to win in 90 minutes.

1) They won the last meeting of the sides 5-3 on New Year’s Day.

It wasn’t just that Spurs beat the league leaders precisely two months ago, they tore them to pieces. Before that, Chelsea had never conceded four or more goals in a league game under Mourinho.

Furthermore, the former Real Madrid boss couldn’t hide behind the potential excuse of key absences. Courtois, Terry, Matic, Hazard, Fabregas and Costa - they all played 90 minutes at White Hart Lane. The confidence this gave Pochettino’s boys can’t be overstated.

2) This time Nemanja Matic is missing.

Although Spurs beat a Chelsea team with Matic in it, they’ll be delighted to play one without him. That January clash was the only time in 37 appearances this season when the Blues have lost when the Serbian was on the pitch.

Without him, Mourinho’s men have lost two out of three fixtures; to Newcastle in the top flight and to League One Bradford in the FA Cup. He looks pivotal to his club’s success.

3) Harry Kane is a match winner.

If Matic is pivotal, then Harry Kane is the talisman and hero of Tottenham Hotspur. The 21-year-old has enjoyed an astonishing breakthrough campaign in which he has found the net 23 times in all competitions.

His credentials as a big-match player are already crystal clear. Kane scored twice against the Blues on 1 January and bagged two more against the Gunners a few weeks ago. This is already more than enough to give him legendary status at the Lane but he’s also since scored at Anfield, and on his last start against West Ham to keep the hype going.

Put these three factors together, and Tottenham should not be the long shot price we are seeing.
