Euro 2020 Outrights: Lowest Scoring Team

The one where you get to pick which minnow may really be out of their depth. Few teams could suffer more from their opponents' home advantage than the Finns.

One of my favourite markets at major tournaments is picking who will be the lowest scorers. You’re probably looking for the team who won’t score at all; qualifying form, recent results and group strength can all offer pointers.

Of the weaker nations at Euro 2020, Hungary are hugely tempting given their taunting task in Group F against Portugal, France and Germany. I couldn’t fault anyone taking the 5/1 with BetFair on that basis alone, but note this is a team who put 3 past Poland in March in a World Cup qualifier, and who generally score.

North Macedonia could be another popular selection in this market as they arrive for their first ever tournament. But don’t dismiss this underdog who beat Germany in their own backyard as recently as March. Group C also isn’t the strongest, and North Macedonia might fancy their game order (Austria/Ukraine/Netherlands).

Instead, we’re going for another debutant, in Finland, at best odds of 7/1 with WilliamHill. Teemu Pukki is the man who could make a fool of us after 10 goals in qualifying. However, facing Denmark in Copenhagen, then Russia in St Petersburg is a tough break, before finishing against Belgium, one of the overall favourites.

Finland, having failed to score in recent warm-up defeats against Estonia and Sweden, and may just have to enjoy the novelty of being there.

*67% dead heat rule applied as Finland finished joint lowest scorers with Scotland and Turkey - 1 goal each.
