Danes Have The Quality

Denmark showed what they can do when beating Group E winners Poland 4-0 in September. O'Neill's tactical nous can only take his side so far.

We correctly predicted a low scoring draw in the first leg and we’re going for something similar here, with one crucial difference. A 1-1 result would see Denmark reach the World Cup courtesy of the away goal - an 11/2 shot with WilliamHill.

The Republic of Ireland are designed as a team capable of getting a result on the road when nobody expects them to attack. The problems come when they are forced to make some of the running as surely they must here, unless they play for 0-0 for 2 hours and then penalties. Risky to say the least!

In Group D they failed to win at home to Wales, Austria or Serbia (D2 L1). As for tonight, even Martin O’Neill has conceded “we may need a couple of goals in the game because to keep Denmark out for two games may be tough.”

Therein lies the problem because there’s no reason to think this side has the cutting edge to score twice against this level of opponent.
