Half Cut Blades

Spurs keep having bad spells in most matches and that gives the underdogs some hope here.

It may be Premier League at home to League One, but it would actually raise a few eyebrows if Spurs won this Capital Cup first leg at a real canter.

The bookies have underestimated Sheffield United pretty relentlessly over the past 12 months with no less than five top flight sides succumbing to the Blades. Indeed, they have only lost twice in 19 cup games under Nigel Clough.

For Tottenham, life is relatively good under Pochettino after just one defeat in 10 outings. That puts them in top four contention as well as challenging for three other knockout competitions.

However, the Lilywhites hardly ever pull off a 90 minute performance. They have relied on umpteen late winners and trailed 2-0 to Burnley after seven minutes only last week in the FA Cup. Before that they capitulated in the second half at Selhurst Park.

That said, a first leg upset is hard to see even if 9/1 is somewhat tantalising. But we can have realistic hope of Sheffield Utd winning either half at best odds of 16/5 (William Hill).
