Wolves With Another Chance To Maul Swans

The runaway Championship leaders are 14 games unbeaten in all competitions and will face the worst side in the Premier League minus its best players. The odds here are a gift.

Are we really even backing an upset here? According to the bookies we are because while Swansea are around 8/5 with most firms, Wolves are a best price 2/1 with Ladbrokes.

The Welsh club are one place higher on the league ladder but this must rank as the ultimate technicality. The Swans are rock bottom of the Premier League and 4 points from safety while Wolves are 10 points clear of the pack in the Championship.

You could therefore make a case that the East Midlanders can more readily afford a run in the FA Cup. Indeed, new Swans’ boss Carvalhal is the one making it very clear that his priorities lie elsewhere and that he will field peripheral players.

But even if his Wolves counterpart Nuno Santo draws the same conclusion then we may well find that his expensively assembled squad already has the greater depth.
