The former England manager took the Londoners from rock bottom of the Championship to 8th by Boxing Day. That's enough to suggest they shouldn't be underdogs against League One opposition.
Don’t get me wrong, Portsmouth have every chance in this FA Cup 4th round clash but they shouldn’t be strong favourites against a side a division higher. QPR are worth picking up at best odds of 23/10 with BetFair.
Steve McClaren’s boys are a solid Championship outfit who flew up the table after a nightmare start to the campaign. Sure, they received a spanking last weekend, but they have demonstrated remarkable powers of recovery before and they can do so again. It’s only 3 weeks since they knocked out table-topping Leeds in Round 3.
Now they face the league leaders of League One who are in danger of being in too many competitions after suffering back-to-back defeats in their promotion bid. That has to be the priority and Kenny Jackett must be worried about fatigue.
QPR can afford to take this competition seriously with both relegation and promotion unlikely. That mentality could prove the difference here.
