FA Cup Outright Tip: Arsenal

As third round weekend comes around, now is the time when many of us have a flutter on who will go all the way.

Of course we know who the top six contenders are but this year could be impacted by the surprising success of English clubs in the Champions League. It remains to be seen, but this could ultimately thwart the domestic progress of Man City, Man Utd, Spurs, Chelsea or Liverpool.

The odd one out is Arsenal and of course they could be hampered by the Europa League instead. But there is a difference. Firstly the standard of opposition is generally much lower and the Gunners may be able to progress without draining their first team. The alternative is that they experience an embarrassing exit while fielding some reserves.

What I can’t envisage is Wenger playing his strongest side in Europe unless they reach the semi-finals. This tactic should improve their prospects of a) finishing top four and b) winning the FA Cup.
