FA Cup Final: Scoreline Tip

The Eagles have done enough to show the upset is possible if they show up and if that happens one scoreline is more likely than most.

It’s always somewhat curious that a cup final underdog is such a bigger price to win in 90 minutes than it is to simply lift the trophy ie to allow for victory after extra time or penalties.

Obviously I get the principle - more opportunities to win the bet - but logically the better team seems more likely to win the longer the match goes on. That’s why Palace to win in 90 minutes at 9/2 looks far more appealing than the 12/5 on them simply lifting the trophy (both Bet365).

In the only truly competitive match between the clubs this season so far (because Palace fielded reserves at Old Trafford), the sides drew 0-0 at Selhurst Park in a game which the hosts dominated. Louis van Gaal actually cites this as one of the few games in which he felt his side were lucky to get away with a draw.

The Eagles have the tools to hurt United on a good day. Bolasie and Zaha caused problems on the wings in the league fixture while the Londoners are dangerous on set pieces where the Red Devils are vulnerable.

A scoreline bet looks particularly appealing if you fancy a shock because Pardew’s boys tend to win either 1-0 or 2-1 - the latter is a 17/1 shot with Paddy Power. They’ve struggled for clean sheets in the second half of the season so this is the value play.

*Back 2-1 to Palace with Paddy Power because they are not only offering best price but they will also give £10 of free in-play bets if you bet £20 in single bets before kick-off. T&Cs apply.
