FA Cup Final: Man City v Wigan

With a host of defenders missing, and on the big Wembley pitch, the chances of a Latics upset are minimal.

Caught up in a pressing relegation battle, Wigan Athletic squeeze the most exciting day in the history of the club into a congested fixture list. Manchester City have had little else to occupy their minds since the league title slipped out of their grasp and the chances of an upset must be slim.

Of course there is little value in simply backing the 2011 FA Cup winners to repeat the trick at best odds of 2/5; we need to be a little more daring and take on a scoreline prediction instead.

Two things immediately come to mind. Firstly, this is too big a day and Martinez is too decent a manager to allow his side to be humiliated on this showpiece occasion, however good the opposition is. On the other hand, the Latics have a serious problem scoring goals against City - they haven’t found the net once in their last seven outings.

These two contrasting points lead me to favour a narrow victory for Roberto Mancini’s boys which may edge towards the routine on the big Wembley pitch that inevitably favours the better footballing side. With that in mind I’m backing a 2-0 win for Man City which can be snapped up at 6/1 with BetVictor.
