11th Dec 2014 | Europa League

French Oddity

One of the strangest Europa League campaigns has seen all 5 St Etienne matches end as draws with no more than 2 goals in any encounter.

The Europa League’s Group F is a strange one. Inter have run away with it in the end while the other three sides battle it out for the runners-up spot. St Etienne are unbeaten, but also winless, but the best bet is to back under 1.5 goals in the game when they face Dnipro this evening at best odds of 17/10 (Sportingbet).

Three of the French side’s European fixtures have ended 0-0, two have been 1-1 so their matches average a meagre 0.8 goals. And this doesn’t look like a total anomaly.

In Ligue 1, Christophe Galtier’s boys sit fourth in the table having only lost three matches, the same as leaders Marseilles. The difference is that St Etienne have scored fewer goals than everyone else in the top seven. Yet they do boast the joint-best defensive record. All this is endemic of a side we should be backing in the under 1.5 goal market.
