Iceland Slow To Thaw Out

22 of the 79 goals scored so far have come in the 76th minute or later - that’s 28%. Disproportionately high.

Anyone who has watched England’s first three games can take a pretty good guess at what will happen if there isn’t an early goal in their last 16 clash.

The Three Lions should dominate possession and territory, but they may struggle to break the deadlock. StanJames offer 12/1 on the first goal of the game coming between the 76th minute and the end of the 90-minute match and that looks like great value.

Hodgson’s boys couldn’t breakthrough against a poor Russia side until the 73rd minute and needed until the 91st to find a winner against Wales. They were then shut out completely by Slovakia.

For their part Iceland defended brilliantly to avoid defeat in Group F. Two of their three fixtures saw late goals as the overriding trend of the tournament continued.

This could be a bridge too far for the rank outsiders but Iceland are capable of making English fans sweat for most of the evening.
