Spain v France: Scoreline Tip

Torres: Will get another chance to shine on Saturday.

Spain may be aggrieved by some of the criticism coming their way considering their results and pedigree. France may be there for the taking.

It will surely have been noted in the Spanish camp that Germany are currently regarded as the standout favourites for Euro 2012 - currently a best price 15/8 with Boylesports while the champions are 13/5 (Bet365). Of course, part of this is down to the Germans already being in the semis, but even so Del Bosque’s men may want to remind people who has all the trophies.

It’s a tendency of armchair pundits to make knee-jerk reactions to the football in front of them. Germany are being widely heralded this morning but they didn’t look quite so clever when Greece had hauled themselves back to 1-1 with half an hour to go. Events and opinions change quickly.

In the case of Spain lots of people are concluding they are a fading force based on the evidence of the group stages. Well it didn’t go too badly! They scored the most goals (6) and conceded the fewest (1). And they’ve still had more shots on target (39) than Germany (33) who have obviously played a match more.

France had a terrible night when they lost 2-0 to Sweden last time out - opponents who had nothing to play for. The truth is it could have been even worse and the French squad aren’t exactly famed for bouncing back from adversity in tournaments.

I think they may get on the scoresheet; as the team with the second most shots on target in the competition they do always carry a threat. But if Spain turn on the style then this encounter may prove to be pretty one-sided regardless. It looks like a good opportunity for a scoreline value bet; the champions are a best price 20/1 (Coral) to win 3-1.
