Netherlands v Germany: First Goalscorer Tip

The Hunter is champing at the bit.

Arguably the hottest striker in European football when club and international statistics are considered together.

Bert van Marwijk looks set to give in to public and player pressure and hand a start to the prolific Klass-Jan Huntelaar on Wednesday. The Schalke marksman was left to watch in frustration from the bench for 71 minutes as his Dutch side crashed to a 1-0 defeat to Denmark on match day one.

The Netherlands coach has come in for stinging criticism back home and is now set to unleash his not-so-secret weapon. Huntelaar top scored across Europe in qualification with 12 goals, three more than the next best total. Given that he also netted 48 goals in 47 matches for his club in 2011-12, ‘The Hunter’ has been a rather startling omission.

But all the indications are that the 28-year-old will start against Germany as the most advanced player in an ultra-attacking line-up. In both of the Oranje training sessions on Tuesday, Van Marwijk utilised Huntelaar as the lead striker with Van Persie in a slightly withdrawn role while Sneijder and Robben roamed from wide in a formidable attacking quartet.

Some bookies, perhaps unaware of these training preparations, will still be expecting Huntelaar on the bench and his price is affected accordingly. We should take him as first goalscorer at a best price of 8/1 (PaddyPower). The Irish firm will give you your money back if Mario Gomez scores at anytime and Huntelaar fails to break the deadlock.
